    Emergence of Gen 2+ image intensifier tubes (IITs) became the base for the development of a family of new-generation night vision devices in the 1990's.
     The use of a modular concept in combination with high technical parameters of the IITs made it possible to obtain a wide range of sights that provide for the maximum harmonization of technical characteristics of the sights and the weapons. For the first time, it afforded an opportunity to deliver aimed fire from small arms under night conditions within the effective range, and along with this the mass and dimensions parameters of the sights substantially reduced.
     The first device from the 1PN93 family came into existence in 1995 and was named Malysh. Later, thanks to the design modularity, individual elements of the Malysh device were used in the development of a large variety of portable sights of new generation: 1PN93-1, 1PN93-2, 1PN93-3 and 1PN93-4. The devices are accepted for service by the Russian Army, They have been successfully produced by NPZ Optics State Plant up to the present time

    The 1PN93 family covers all types of modern small-arms weapons: submachine guns, machine guns, grenade launchers and sniper rifles. The devices have passed service in troops, including under combat conditions in the course of antiterrorist operations in the Chechen Republic. The sight reticles enable aimed fire without using handwheels for setting elevation and training angles.
